Drama as delegates beats PDP chairman to coma during primary election

 The Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, Hon Christopher Audu, has been left to battle for his life after he was attacked during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election.   The election, which was held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Ba’ap, the headquarters of Qua’an Pan LGA, was to determine the party’s flag-bearer for the upcoming local government elections in Plateau State.  An observer, Michael Bulus who spoke to Daily Trust said though the process commenced on a peaceful note, things became violent after the TIC chairman was declared winner.   Having learnt of the outcome, some delegates and party faithful who were denied access to the hall forced their way in and pounced on Audu.   They accused him of rigging the election by handpicking his loyalists to be delegates and blocking the real delegates from participating in the process.  “The mob beat up Hon Audu without mercy while complainin...

Tinubu commissions 20 Innoson-built CNG buses in Abuja

  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the first set of Compressed Natural Gas, (CNG), buses at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The buses, numbering 20 in the first batch, were produced locally by Innoson Motors.   Five of the CNG buses were driven to the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, where the President took a break from the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting to commission them.   The provision of CNG buses is one of the demands made by organised labour after the Federal Government removed fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023.    Recall that Innoson Motors' Chairman and CEO, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, met with Tinubu last week at the Presidential Villa. Following the meeting, Chukwuma appealed on Nigerians to be patient with President Tinubu and support his administration.    The billionaire promised that a better Nigeria would emerge under the President's leadership.

#EndBadGovernance Protests: Police Commit Unprovoked Murder, Shoot Boy Dead in FCT

 A young boy has been shot and killed by members of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the #EndBadGovernance protest enters its third day. Credit: Daily post    The incident occurred near the Zenith Bank area of Kubwa.  According to eyewitnesses, the boy was not part of the protest and was merely passing by when he was shot at close range by the police.  In a message to the DAILY POST, Adeyanju said, “IGP Kayode Egbetokun and his bloodthirsty men should come and eat the meat of this innocent young guy shot on the neck at close range at Kubwa by Zenith Bank. “Clearly, this is an unprovoked murder as the boy was just sight-seeing the protesters of #EndBadGovernance before this ugly end,” he added.

End SARS Protest in Lagos

    Lagos Police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu led other officers to brutalise protesters who are carrying out a sit-in outside the police headquarters and the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday night.     The officers also destroyed makeshift shelters which the protesters are using as a base to demand an end to the brutal special anti-robbery squad.     The protesters which began on Wednesday, continued Thursday night as protesters say they will not stand down until SARS has been finally dissolved.    The unit is blamed for rights abuses and corruption, which police leadership did not deny, but warned that scrapping the unit could mean a call into anarchy across the country.   The protesters are also camped outside the Lagos House, where they were addressed a moment ago by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Catholic Chapel designed With Over one hundred Human Bones

  The  Sedlec Ossuary   is a small chapel in a suburb in the Czech Republic. The bone chilling chandeliers (made from every bone in the human body), skull lined arches and pyramids are made from 40,000-70,000 skeletons.   A half blind monk stacked the bones into pyramids in 1511, but woodcarver Frantisek Rint was commissioned by the Schwarzenberg family to redesign the bones 1870. Ogun govt. orders closure of schools

  Ogun state government has ordered an indefinite closure of all schools in the state to contain the spread of covid-19 in the state. Dapo   The closure is to take effect as from after the school hours on Friday(today). Parents and guardians who have children or wards in the schools’ boarding to evacuate them at end of school hours on Friday (today) to their respective homes.   The state government in a release by the state governor’s chief press secretary, Kunle Somorin, assures that the closure will be reviewed at regular intervals in response to the development situation on covid-19.   The directive is a follow-up to Wednesday’s ban on gathering of fifty or more people in the same place.   Schools had already been closed in Lagos and Kwara States, as well as in North West and north central region.   Governor Dapo Abiodun calls for understanding of parents and school owners to fully comply with the directive, and to offer useful information ...

FG Approves N33,000 Monthly Allowance For Corps Members

  The Federal Government has approved the payment of N33,000 as monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).   The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, disclosed this during a session with some corps members at the service’s Bauchi State Secretariat.   Brigadier General Ibrahim, who was on a working visit to the state, cleared the air on the amount approved as monthly allowance for corps members.   He explained that the approval was made in line with the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage by the Federal Government.   Ibrahim noted that contrary to the various amounts being circulated on social media, the sum of N33,000 had been approved as the new rate.   He stressed that provision had been made for the new allowance in the year 2020 Budget, adding that payment would commence as soon as funds were released by the appropriate authorities.   The NYSC boss advised the corps m...

Senatorial Candidate Shot Dead By NSCDC Official In Imo

  Mr Ndubuisi Emenike the Action Alliance (AA’s) candidate in the Imo North Senatorial District in the 2019 National Assembly election, has been shot dead by an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).   The Imo state Police command confirmed the killing on Sunday, January 26, 2020.   Speaking on the developing issue, police spokesman, Orlando Ikeokwu told journalists that Mr Emenike was mistakenly shot dead by the NSCDC official during a celebration party held in honour of APC’s Miriam Onuoha the winner of the Okigwe North Federal Constituency.   The said NSCDC operative is said to have been attached to the AA Senatorial candidate and had escorted him to the victory party.   Witnesses say NSCDC official was shooting consistently into the air and mistakenly shot his boss, disrupting the party which was already underway.   Mr Emenike fell and lost consciousness and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.   Po...

Boko Haram rejects ransom, beheads CAN chairman

  The Adamawa state chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria said Boko Haram fighters have beheaded Rev. Lawan Andimi, branchchairman in Michika local government of the state.   Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza explained that the terrorists, who earlier demanded for a ransom of £2 million, however rejected an offer of N50 million.   He explained that two pastors in the state were killed at the same time in questionable circumstances, calling on the federal government to wake up to its constitutional responsibility.   The Adamawa state government has reacted to the execution of Rev. Lawan describing the action of the terror group as barbaric.   The Director General, Media and communications to Governor Ahmadu Umoru Fintiri called for sober reflection.   Mr Solomon Kumangar in an interview said that Mr Andimi was abducted two weeks ago when Boko Haram fighters stormed Michika town, in search of food stuff and petroleum products.

Nationwide Blackout Looms As Labour Threaten To Shut Power Sector

   The erratic power supply across the country maybe heading for the worse as Organised Labour in the sector has threatened to down tools and begin a nationwide industrial action over pending labour issues.   Some of issues include unpaid benefits to over 2000 disengaged staff of the defunct PHCN since 2013, underpayment of over 50,000 ex-PHCN staff, refusal of DISCOs to remit deducted contributory pension fund to workers' Pension Fund Administrators, PFAs, payment of half salaries to workers by DISCOs, among other perceived unfair Labour practices.   In a petition to the Minister of Power, dated November 7, National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, issued a 21-day strike notice to the federal government, GENCOs and DISCOs to address all Labour concerns, failing which it would declare a nationwide industrial unrest. 

Fire Guts Building In Ebute Metta, Lagos

  A building along Jebba Street in the Okobaba area of Ebutte Meta area of Lagos is currently on fire.   It is unclear what the cause of the fire is and according to an eyewitness, but residents are currently making efforts to put it out.   The incident comes just days after a building was also gutted by fire in Balogun Market of Lagos Island, destroying goods and property worth millions.  This is the second fire outbreak within a week.

Series A: Italian football federation request five substitution for league

  Serie A could introduce five substitutions a match, after a request was sent by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to football's lawmakers.   The move is backed by Italy's top-flight clubs who want more choice, with teams already allowed to name 12 substitutes on the bench.   The five changes would be made over three stoppages, to reduce the number of breaks in play. Serie C already allow five substitutes.   FIGC president Gabriele Gravina has sent the request to the International Football Association Board (Ifab).   Champions League and Europa League games permit a fourth substitute in extra-time and it will also be allowed at the 2020 European Championship.   The Football Association announced in 2018 that it would permit an extra substitute in the latter stages of the FA Cup, from the quarter-finals onwards, while the Football League has permitted a fourth substitute in extra-time in all EFL Cup ties since 2017.
